ATTENTION!

                          Directors note.

" There are no guarantees for success if you work within the system. "
- Steven Spielburg

" Over 85% of SAG members are not employed as actors. "
- Mark Litwak

And one from my hero Bruce Campbell.

" You can become a producer yourself and do an " End run. " It's a tough route, but c'mon folks, it's America -- use it to your advantage.  We basically did this with our first film, " Evil Dead. " We never got an agent until it was time to sell the film to the world! "

Productions like Blair Witch surprise the heck out of most people. They give me incentive to do this outside the loop.

Sincerely,

Kevin Nicholson

A: In order to work in the " Big Budget " Films. You have to be a member of SAG ( The Screen Actors Guild )

B: If you are interested in being in a TV show. You have to be a member of AFTRA. ( A simmilar union for TV. )

C: Both AFTRA and SAG require that you have worked quite some time before applying for membership. You will need a demo reel of all the things you have worked on. This is a catch 22 because you can't work on anything but indie movies to get a enough material to get a good demo reel.

D: Shooting ANY movie. Be it either Film or Video will require working with lots of people you can't stand, working on productions that suck, and standing around hours on end waiting for your chance to be on camera. On the production I am currently working on. We have to Wait for planes to pass overhead almost 90% of the time. ( Not to mention no one can stand me. )

E: Look in the dictionary for the word " Prima Donnas " If you are one. No dice. You won't get cast for anything. I am refering to the second definition.

F: ACTING IS WORK!!!!!! It involves LOTS of reading and a mastery of the english language. Get rid of those accents people! In many cases you don't get a trailer, or pay. The exception is when you join the unions. See point C.

G: Nudity is a part of life and therefore a part of the movies. You can get away without being involed with roles that require it, but it will make initial efforts to break into the industry that much more difficult. Called " The Devil's Way " it is the fast track into acting in movies. The more you are willing to do the easier it is to get a role in lots of stuff. It's a moral choice every actor " Male or Female " will have to face. So be prepared for it. Beware of slimeballs who are trying to seduce you into porn. Chances are. If there is a good size script to go over. Your safe. If someone hands you five pages of crappy looking dialogue. Stay away from it like the plague.

H: Good acting classes can sometime get you work in productions. Look for classes that have connections.

G: John Cassablancas, One Source Talent, John Robert Powers,  and other of the ilk are parasites.
It's a HUGE scam! They have NEVER found an acting job for any of the people who have taken thier courses, and rarely found any modeling work. They take your $ and that's about it. If you need the classes that badly. Take them from a private instructor. If you need help finding one. Call us. We will help.

H: NETWORK!!!! Talk to other actors who are working at auditions and listen to where they have been. You will be able to learn whats good and bad in production.

I: BackStage, The Hollywood reporter, Ross reports, and State film offices can be an invaluable source. That's where they post the teachers, photographers, and most importantly. THE JOBS.

OK. That's it for me. Just figured I would post these hints for you all. Good luck.
