Danielson, CT

A quaint little town in North East Connecticut.

Now I could go on about the rich history of the location. The old  textile mills. The churches.

I would rather give the pro's and con's of living here in the present day.

I have a page about Putnam, CT that goes into the many places to dine and what I thought about them. Some positive some negative. I'll stick to a similar format and list some of the locations I know. I'll try to be more verbose about demographics.

Danielson is a quiet little town. Most of the homes in it Range from $200,000 - $500,000. This amount is a generalization where I reside the building is I believe $230,000

Rent's depending on the location can range from  $395 for a studio apartment ( rare ) to a $950 / $1250 a month  three bedroom apartment. Electric bills are no less than $100 a month. Gas has risen to about $150 - $200 a month. SBC SNET continues to make up the bills as they go. Raping anyone with a land line for way too much. Eastern Connecticut Cable provides internet and TV service. It's the only utility I don't mind paying.

Danielson is pretty much three streets that form a triangle.
That's the town in a nutshell. Main st. ( Rt. 12 ) ,

Broad St.,
Franklin st, Danielson, CT
and Franklin st.

Where the east end of broad St. and Main street meet. There is a quaint little park. Davis park.  Known for having an old cannon and a Gazebo. If you follow Main street. You will find a few banks, a historical society, A paint store, a liquor store. a couple of appliance stores. and three restaurants. I'm sure this isn't complete, but I'm reciting off the top of my head. as you drive down this street. You will see two state troopers at any time. Which is odd, because no place on main St. sells Doughnuts. ( I'll catch hell for that one. )

Main street is like a chess board. Lined out in Ghetto bombed abandoned storefronts and nicely remodeled functioning businesses. There are a few places in town that I seem to visit often.

My bank,

Sunny side farms.( A convenience store )

, Paytons Place ( Hairdresser )

3q lube,

and the Rain Desert restaurant / music house.

I also stop by gil's shoe barn,

 Pizza Pizzaz,

 and enchanted jewelry.
It should also be noted that Trinket shop is known for being very active helping the community.

There is a big Y supermarket just  3 minutes from town and that's where I get my food. There are also a few gas stations and some fast food places across the river in Brooklyn.

You will find that life in Danielson grinds to a halt from 5 pm to 10 pm. Almost everyplace closes between those hours. With the exception of the afore Mentioned Rain Desert and Cumberland Farms  ( again right across the river  in Brooklyn. They close at midnight ) The only 24 hour stores are in nearby Dayville and on  I395 to Moosup. So I try and shop in bulk so I don't have to make any late night runs.

The Bonanza bus line stops here in town.

A freight train runs through the town as well, but to date has always been to afraid to stop.

All in all. I grew up in this town. When the economy gets better. I think it may just be restored.
It's a shame that our current regime spends all of our money destroying buildings overseas.
Rather than repairing the ones at home, but I'll go off on that another time.

There are a few buildings in town that have some historical significance.

Granted.. I don't know how historical they are, but they look pretty cool.

Now at the top of Main and Broad lies Davis Park.

Monuments and statues surround the main Gazebo.
It's a nice enough little park.
Generally filled by people during the yearly
Spring Time Festival and the occasional art show.
It's the hub of activity for town events.

Now Franklin st is the odd end of the afore mentioned triangle.
The Top of Franklin st  where it meets Broad st. is in good repair.

The bottom well. Not as much.

I love the artisrty of this house but I don't think it's going to survive.

All of the buildings such as they are huddle like baby ducklings around it's mother.

That would be St. James Church.
It's a shame that neither government nor religion seem
to care about restoring these once beautiful buildings.

Now I live on Broad st.
The biggest building on the street is the community center.

It used to be a high school. Then a Jr. High. ( I was forced to serve there )

And now a community center.

This building also has some artistry.
At least on the outside. From what I recall
The inside resembled a jail.
Of course being in Jr High anywhere probably seem that way.

Since this has kind of turned into a pet project of mine. I am sure more updates will follow shortly.
